A man who escaped Thames Magistrates Court after assaulting the custody officer following a statement that he would be remanded in custody has been found and returned to custody.

Kerol Farquharson, 20, appeared at Thames Magistrates Court on Tuesday, April 17 and whilst in the dock he was told he would be remanded in custody to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

On hearing this, Mr Farquharson tried to jump the dock and struggled with a Serco Custody officer. This resulted in him assaulting the officer and escaping the court.

Officers then went on a man hunt to find him and in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, April 24) officers from the Robbery Task Force at Bethnal Green found and arrested him. He is currently in custody at an East London police station.

Supt. Robert Revill said: “This is a great result. The hard work from everyone involved in the hunt for Farquharson has paid off and he is now back in custody.”
