A man charged with the murder of his wife at his home in London’s East End has been committed to the Old Bailey.
Sheikh Shahidul Islam was charged on Sunday with 28-year-old Rushna Begum’s murder and appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Police were called to a flat in Newmill House in Devas Street, Bromley-by-Bow, on Friday at 4.20pm, where they found Mrs Begum’s body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A murder investigation was launched by the Met’s Homicide & Serious Crime Command. Her 34-year-old husband was arrested later the same day.
Islam was charged on Sunday with her murder and appeared yesterday before Thames magistrates, when he was formally committed in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on September 6 for a plea and case management pre-hearing.
