A young man had ‘acid’ sprayed at his face in Limehouse by two men he arranged to meet to sell his mobile phone.
The victim, aged in his 20s, was found injured after the suspected noxious substance attack when officers were called to Harley House, in Frances Wharf, shortly before 5.30pm on Sunday.
One of the suspects, who claimed to be the buyer, attacked him and made off with the phone, he said.
The victim was taken to an east London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
Detectives from Tower Hamlets are investigating with no arrests made so far.
The borough has the second highest rate of acid attacks of any London borough, Metropolitan Police data show.
According to the figures, nearly 100 violent offences involving corrosive fluids took place in the borough between January 2015 and October last year.
