Police investigating the burglary of a Whitechapel family home by men demanding cash and gold have made an arrest.
A 21-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of aggravated burglary and remains in police custody.
Earlier this week Scotland Yard launched an appeal to help trace the men suspected of being behind the night-time break-in.
Police are still appealing for more information about the burglary, which happened while the family occupying the house were asleep in their Sidney Street home at around 3.30am on the morning of Friday, July 27.
Three images of people wanted for questioning have been released.
A Met Police spokesman said: “The suspects, believed to be up to eight males, grabbed the occupants and threatened them with weapons, including a knife and machetes, before making off with a quantity of items.”
Once inside the men demanded cash and gold from the occupants, according to the police.
Det Sgt Justin Franklin, from Whitechapel CID, said: “This was a terrifying attack on a family asleep in their home, The perpetrators were violent and need to be caught as soon as possible.
“Although we have made an arrest, we need to hear from you if you have any information.”
Scotland Yard has previously said the victims were “very shaken” but did not need medical treatment following the burglary of their home.
