A cannabis factory was discovered yards away from a school on Tuesday – but parents were reassured to hear that police had planted it there themselves.

Officers used a specially adapted vehicle which has been converted into the mock factory as part of Operation Hawk, a London-wide clampdown on drugs.

And last Tuesday they brought the vehicle to the gates of Langdon Park School, drawing in around 200 people for a tour of the farm – including pupils from the secondary.

PC Hamilton-Levy, who organised the event, said: “This has been the most successful engagement tactic we have used for a number of years. We have also gained valuable intelligence, and I expect to see a number of raids in the near future.”

Following the success of the project, the vehicle is now set to be deployed to a number of locations around Tower Hamlets in the coming weeks and months.
