Police have cordoned off a large public park in London’s East End following a sexual attack last night.
Officers are stopping members of the public using Weavers Field in Bethnal Green.
It follows what Scotland Yard described as “a serious sexual assault” last night.
Detectives from the Met’s Sexual Offences Command are combing the area. But the incident is not thought to have involved a child.
A resident turned away at the gate today by a detective told the East London Advertiser: “The police stopped us going into the park this-morning and said there had been a serious incident.
“It’s a very poplar open space and is used every day by families and children.”
Police are urging anyone who may have seen what happened last night to call 101, but gave no further details. There was no indication about how long the park in Vallance Road, off Bethnal Green Road, would remain closed.
