Police have been given additional powers to fight anti-social behaviour in Ropemakers Field in Limehouse.

From March 31, council enforcement and police officers will be able to issue Fixed Penalty Notices to those deemed to be involved in anti-social behaviour in the area.

This includes groups congregating, causing people to feel intimidated, consuming alcohol or drugs, urinating or defecating, parking unauthorised vehicles, and obstructing a police officer while performing their duties.

Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs said: “We are committed to tackling anti-social behaviour in all its forms.

“We know the impact a small minority of people can have on our community. This order helps us to tackle those causes, whether it’s alcohol, substance abuse or threatening behaviour. We are sending out a clear signal anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.”

Fixed Penalty Notices are fines given as alternatives to prosecution. The three-year order follows one targeted at alcohol induced anti-social behaviour brought in earlier this year and a public space protection order for Brick Lane in 2017.
