Masked gunmen made off with hundreds of pounds in cash after attacking a female employee of a bookies as she locked up after a shift.

Two masked robbers held a handgun to the woman’s head after attacking her from behind. They shoved her back into the shop, threw her to the ground, and forced her to open up the safe.

She was left with cuts and bruises on her face, arms, back and legs.

The robbery took place at Ladbrokes in Ellesemere Street, Poplar at around 10pm on Thursday, May 30. Police are appealing for information on the suspects, who are both described as black men, around 5ft 10in tall and slim. The suspect wielding the gun was described as speaking with an African or French accent.
