Detectives are hunting a callous thieve in London’s East End who robbed a woman on crutches in the street and stole her handbag.

Scotland Yard has today issued an image from video footage from a nearby petrol-station in the Whitechapel Road of the suspect taken just before the robbery in an alley off Old Montague Street at 3.30am on January 24.

The thief approached the woman in her 30s who was walking with a crutch and asked for directions to an off licence. They both turned down an alley where he pushed her to the ground, stole her crutch and handbag and ran off towards Valence Road in Whitechapel.

He is described as Asian, aged 30 to 40 with short, black hair, medium build, who was wearing light-coloured trousers, dark jacket and pointed shoes.

Witnesses or anyone with information is being asked to contact police on 101, reference 204959, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111.
