He has spoken for the first time after his three kidnappers who bundled him into a car in the main Commercial Road were jailed on Friday for a total of 12-and-a-half years.

“I am scared to go out on my own because I fear it happening again,” the 19-year-old said.

“I am scared in the night in my home area that my kidnappers are going to knock at my door and hurt me and my family.”

The kidnappers were sentenced at Inner London Crown Court, having been found guilty of kidnap and ABH in a trial in September at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Two got four years each—Shakir Miah, aged 20, from Stainsby Road in Poplar, and Salman Shaon, 35, from Camberwell in south London. The third man, Shamsul Alam, 28, from Upper North Street, Poplar, received four-and-a-half years.

Det Con Tomasz Patze said after the sentencing: “This was a frightening ordeal that continues to traumatize the victim.

“But we hope the sentences let him move on with his life and that the jail time allows Miah, Alam and Shaon to reflect on the seriousness of what they’ve done.”

Their victim was at home on June 26 last year when a woman he knew sent him a text message at 10.30pm to meet up.

He met her in Commercial Road, Stepney, by the junction with White Horse Road, when a silver Audi A4 pulled up with men shouting abuse through the window.

Two men got out — one grabbed him in a headlock while another lifted him up and bundled him in the car, forcing him down on the back seat and hidden from any witnesses as they sped off.

The terrified teenager was beaten as the car drove around Stepney and Limehouse, fearing for his life when he was threatened with being shot.

But passers-by who witnessed the kidnapping in Commercial Road managed to get the registration number of the Audi and dialled 999. Police used registration recognition cameras and spotted the Audi in the Rotherhithe tunnel.

The car was stopped as it came out of the tunnel at the south end and the kidnappers were arrested.
