Tower Hamlets recorded the second largest number of homicides in London last year, new figures reveal.
The borough witnessed 10 incidents of murder, manslaughter or infanticide during the 12 months up until June, beaten only by 13 in Southwark.
Brent (nine incidents), Croydon (nine) and Ealing (eight) followed Tower Hamlets in a table of the capital’s homicide hotspots, according to the Office for National Statistics.
The data, published on Thursday, lists more than 31,500 crimes in the borough over the period – the sixth highest figure across the capital.
Police reported 664 homicides in total across England and Wales, a two per cent fall compared with the previous year.
While incidents such as the London terror attacks had affected homicide figures in recent years, overall the homicide rate fell 12pc over the last decade from 14 to 11 incidents per one million people.
