Bogus callers have been targeting residents of an east London housing association, it has emerged.
Tower Hamlets Homes (THH) tenants have been subjected to phone calls telling them their rent accounts are in arrears, and threatening them with further action if they do not hand over their bank details.
The daughter of a tenant in Stepney alerted the association to the problem after a phone call aroused suspicions.
Police have been notified of the problem and have told THH they will investigate further.
The housing association’s staff have been circulated details of the incident and have been briefed to identify themselves in specified terms during phone calls with tenants.
