A man and a woman have been charged following the stabbing of an under-cover drugs cop in London’s East End, Scotland Yard confirmed today.
The officer was on under-cover operation last Tuesday night when he was knifed in the stomach in an incident in an alley off the main Bow Road, at the side of the Bow Bells pub leading to Rainhill Way, while on an operation in plain clothes.
The woman, Janine Morris, 34, from Rainhill Way in Bromley-by-Bow, was charged last night together with Andrew Beadie from Basildon, who turned 20 earlier this month, with “attempted murder” and causing affray. She is also charged with assisting an offender.
Both are due to appear in custody at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court in the morning.
A 17-year-old youth arrested on the night of the incident, charged with “suspicion of attempted murder”, remains on bail until January pending further police investigations.
Detectives from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command launched an investigation after the undercover officer was stabbed while involved in a planned operation.
The officer was taken to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel where he remains in a serious condition, but with non life-threatening injuries.
