Two men who ambushed and stabbed a father-of-two to death after a boxing match have been jailed for a total of 26 years.
Luther Edwards, 32, was ambushed and stabbed in Old Ford Road and Cambridge Heath Road, Bethnal Green, before he staggered into a BP garage nearby in July 2016.
He died an hour later.
Marlon Thomas, of Woodcote Place, West Norwood - the ex-boyfriend of Luther’s partner Emine Ibrahim - and Jerome Osbourne, of Somerset Avenue, Chessington, were found guilty of manslaughter on June 20.
On Friday, Thomas, 28, was handed a 14 year prison sentence, while Osbourne, 33, was jailed for 12 years.
The Old Bailey heard during the seven week trial how Luther was killed outside a boxing match in York Hall after being attacked by a group of men outside the venue.
He was then involved in a brawl involving more than ten people, captured on CCTV, which spilled out into Old Ford Road and across towards a BP garage on Cambridge Heath Road.
Luther collapsed on the forecourt and died an hour later after having been stabbed during the fight.
Earlier in the evening Luther was seen arguing with the men inside the venue and they had to be separated.
During the boxing match, Luther had been messaging his girlfriend, who was not at the event.
Within the messages was a photo of Marlon Thomas, who she had dated some years earlier.
It is believed that this is what sparked the altercation after Luther insinuated to Marlon Thomas that she was with a better man now.
DS Brett Hagen said: “This investigation was a lengthy and challenging one, but ultimately justice has prevailed.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank my team for their painstaking work in reviewing thousands of hours of CCTV footage, which led to the arrest, charge and conviction of the individuals who carried out this savage attack.
“Luther’s family, several of whom were present on the night, have displayed incredible courage and patience throughout the last two years.
“I hope they can take some solace in the convictions and sentencing.”
