A crop of Tower Hamlets food gardens have been singled out for awards recognising their work growing fruits and vegetables in community spaces in the capital.
Chisenhale Primary School, in Chisenhale Road, Bow, beat more than 1,900 applicants to be crowned the ‘Learning Food Garden of London’, after judges praised the school’s plot as an education aide.
And Fairlie Grow, in the Bow Bridge Estate, won the ‘Bee Friendly Food Garden of London’.
The recent Grow for Gold competition was organised by the Capital Growth network, a partnership between various organisations including the office of the Mayor of London and the Big Lottery’s Local Food Fund.
Paola Guzman, of Capital Growth spokesman praised the quality of the entries and added: “In the four years since Capital Growth launched, Tower Hamlets residents have helped create 128 new community food growing spaces.”
