CHURCH trust bosses are looking for a keen hand who can raise cash for their East End charity project.

They're putting their own hands in their pocket for a pro-rata salary between £12,000 and £18,000 for two or three days a week in London's East End.

The Spitalfields Crypt Trust, on the doorstep of the City of London's booming financial district, wants an experienced fundraiser who can bring in the cash.

Much of the money is needed to run its New Hanbury training and education centre in Shoreditch High Street, opened May 20.

It runs five East End charity shops in Commercial Street by Toynbee Hall, at Roman Road Market in Bow, Watney Market in Shadwell, Chrisp Street Market in Poplar and Rathbone Market in Canning Town, which bring in £700 daily.

But it's not enough for the growing needs of East London's destitute, says the charity.

The Christian organisation provides help for the homelessness and those recovering from alcoholism, social isolation and poverty, regardless of religion, race, ethnic group, age, sex, sexuality, physical or mental disability.

Spitalfields Crypt Trust began 40 years ago with a drop-in centre in the crypt of Hawksmoor's famous Spitalfields Church in Commercial Street, where the homeless were given food, a wash and shave and help to find accommodation.
