Orient defender pleased to be back

Leyton Orient defender Scott Cuthbert was happy to be back in action at Peterborough, despite his return ending in a 1-0 defeat.

Cuthbert, 27, made his first start since the home defeat against Notts County on February 10, having been sidelined with an ankle injury, and wore the captain’s armband against Posh.

And he is backing Fabio Liverani’s side to get themselves out of trouble, ahead of Saturday’s crunch clash with Yeovil at Brisbane Road.

Cuthbert said: “I’m just delighted to be back in the team, there’s so much competition for every single position, I’m happy.

“Shane (Lowry) picked up a little knock and I was able to come back in and get 90 minutes which is nice.

“We are heading in the right direction. This is a little slip-up, but it was three wins out of five before so we’re heading in the right direction.

“We just need to be a lot more solid. We seem to have been scoring goals, we need to dust ourselves down. Yeovil now is a massive game for us.”

Jon Taylor’s wind-assisted effort proved the difference between the sides on Saturday, as Orient failed to seriously trouble former loanee Ben Alnwick in the home goal.

Dean Cox fired a chance just wide and the hosts saw Marcus Maddison sent off late on, for a lunging tackle on Luke O’Neill, but Orient could not make the extra man count during stoppage time.

Cuthbert added: “I think it was just one of the those days.

“The goal was a fluke goal, a cross that looks like it’s going a mile over and then a gust of wind gets it and puts it in the top corner.

“After that we huffed and puffed but never really created too many chances, that was the frustrating thing for us.

“Especially when they went down to 10 men in the last five-10 minutes, we couldn’t push and create a few chances and make their goalkeeper pull off a few saves at least.”

Orient had 10 minutes of stoppage time to try and find an equaliser, after a lengthy hold-up while French midfielder Romain Vincelot was stretchered off with a knee injury.

The club are waiting for results of a scan to determine the full extent of the injury and Cuthbert said: “I was really worried about him. He’s not one to stay down too easy and he looked really pale.

“Hopefully it’s not too serious because we need him, he’s a massive player for us.”
