A woman has claimed that her grand-daughter was lucky to escape injury after a branch fell where she was playing during last week’s stormy weather.

Pamela Field, of Tollet Street in Stepney Green says the council visited to improve the safety of some the street’s trees, but did not do enough to ensure the one outside her house was in a safe condition.

She said: “It was a disaster waiting to happen. My grand-daughter was outside when the branch fell, and she was lucky not to be hit by the falling branch.”

The council confirmed to The Advertiser that they inspected the tree in October 2010, and carried out some work to ensure it was in a safe condition. They also confirmed that they have cut the tree down since Mrs Field complained to them regarding the incident.
