Friendly: Haringey Borough 0 Leyton Orient 2

David Mooney ended his long wait for a goal last night as a Leyton Orient XI secured a 2-0 win over Haringey Borough in a friendly fixture at Coles Park.

The experienced forward hadn’t found the net since the 2-2 draw at Barrow on October 7, but added the second for the O’s in north London after Josh Koroma had opened the scoring in the first half.

Orient started brightly with Ruel Sotiriou drilling wide inside two minutes before the visitors took the lead in the 18th minute.

Sam Sargeant’s goal kick found its way to Koroma and he strugged off an opponent before curling into the net from 25-yards.

It was another encouraging sign from the teenager, who netted the winner in O’s last competitive outing – a 2-1 extra-time victory at Bognor Regis Town in the second round of the FA Trophy.

The rest of the first half went by with little to note, but Orient brought on youngster Toby Stevenson at the break with the trialist making way.

Sotiriou snatched at another chance soon after the restart after a cross from Mooney before Sargeant was called into action at the other end, but did well to deny a Haringey forward.

Lamar Reynolds influence began to grow as he went close in the 57th minute after cutting inside and just firing wide.

A flurry of chances occurred after with Arthur Janata, Andrew Tayaca and Mason Hall replacing Sargeant, Michael Clark and George Elokobi.

The O’s then doubled their lead with 75 on the clock when Koroma dribbled past two opponents before squaring for Mooney to tap home.

Even though it was a simple finish, it will no doubt boost the confidence of the Orient forward heading into a busy period of games.

It was nearly 3-0 seconds after Mooney had been replaced by Charles Clayden as Reynolds drilled a shot against the crossbar from the edge of the area.

The full time whistle followed soon after to hand O’s a moral-boosting 2-0 victory ahead of Saturday’s National League match with Aldershot Town.

For Haringey Borough, they return to Bostik North action this weekend away to Soham Town Rangers.
