The club captain is looking forward to the match at Moss Rose and the chance to show what the O’s can do

David Mooney is relishing the prospect of Leyton Orient taking on National League leaders Macclesfield Town this weekend.

The Silkmen could win the title on Saturday, but they must defeat the O’s and hope promotion rivals Tranmere League fail to claim all three points at home to Aldershot Town.

Given Macclesfield’s game with Orient starts at 12.30pm and is live on BT Sport, it could be an exciting afternoon for the Moss Rose club.

Justin Edinburgh’s team will be out to spoil the party though, and their club captain is looking forward to the match.

Mooney, who has scored six times this season, has been involved in numerous live TV games in the past and during the current campaign.

Orient have lost the previous four – 2-0 at Sutton United on August 5, 2-1 at home to Hartlepool United on September 16, 2-1 away to Tranmere on October 3 and 2-1 again at Ebbsfleet United on November 11 – but will look to change that tomorrow.

Mooney, when speaking to the club’s E10 programme ahead of the Barrow fixture last weekend, said: “Sides have often come to Brisbane Road and defended in depth and tried to hit us on the break.

“And if they nick a goal we have found it difficult to break them down, but perhaps the boot will be on the other foot when we travel to Macclesfield Town.

“The game will be kicking off early as it is being shown live on BT Sport and with Macclesfield looking set to clinch promotion back to the Football League, the onus will be on them to beat us.

“So, it may be a case of sitting in and trying to hit them on the break, but however we decide to set-up, I have always enjoyed playing in televised games as it gives some of the family a chance to see you play.

“It’s also a great opportunity for the younger players too, as it gives them a platform to showcase what they are all about.”

After a somewhat frustrating campaign, Orient will aim to show the watching world what they can really do tomorrow afternoon.
