Deadline looms for controversial Thames Tunnel consultation
EAST Enders have just one week left to get their views on the controversial new Thames “super sewer” considered.
Thames Water started speaking to residents in September about its plans for a 20-mile long tunnel following the route of the river from west to east London.
The four month consultation ends on Friday (January 14) at 5pm.
Some 175,000 letters have been sent out to affected communities since talks started and 24 drop-in sessions held.
Thames Water says the 3.6billion upgrade of the city’s aging sewer system is needed to tackle the 39million tonnes of sewage which flow into the river each year.

No decisions have been made yet on the final tunnel route or the construction sites that will be set up.
Areas stretching from Chelsea and Putney in the west to Wapping and the Docklands in the east will be affected.

Tower Hamlets campaigners last month kicked up a stink over suggestions that the award-winning King Edward VII Memorial Park would be caught up in the works.
The park, in Glamis Road regularly wins Green Flag status – an accolade for the best kept parks in the UK.
Head of London Tideway Tunnels at Thames Water, Phil Stride, said the water company needs to “listen very carefully to everybody’s views”.
He added it is “really important” that residents affected put across their views as early as possible.
Another consultation will take place next year.
Thames Water are planning to submit their final application for planning in mid 2012.
Works are due to start in 2013, with the sewer completed by 2020.
