The Dragons led twice at the Racecourse Ground, but were denied the victory by Mark Ellis

Wrexham boss Dean Keates was frustrated to see his side let the lead slip twice during their National League game with Leyton Orient.

It finished all square at the Racecourse Ground after Mark Ellis headed home an 85th minute equaliser for the O’s to ensure it ended 2-2 in North Wales.

The Dragons looked set for all three points, however, after they opened the scoring in the first minute through Chris Holroyd following a superb cross by Paul Rutherford.

Orient levelled in the 23rd minute when Macauley Bonne crossed in from the left and saw his effort fly over the head of home goalkeeper Chris Dunn and into the net.

It remained 1-1 until the break, but Wrexham went back in front with 19 minutes left when Holroyd poked in after good play again by Rutherford out wide.

Orient and their following of 256 supporters appeared set for another disappointing day, but Ellis produced a good low header from a Rommy Boco corner to give both sides a share of the spoils.

Keates, when speaking to the official club website, said: “It’s definitely points dropped. We made two mistakes and we’ve conceded two goals.

“The first goal is a mistake and the second in the 85th minute is a corner and it is the little bits of detail.

“As a player you are accountable for that and it is your man, so you don’t let them score, but one of our players has lost his man.”

Wrexham’s manager paid tribute to Orient for coming back from conceding so early on, but felt they didn’t cause his team too many problems.

The O’s were also indebted to young goalkeeper Charlie Grainger in time added on when he bravely denied Alex Reid.

“We scored after 60 seconds, but give credit to Leyton Orient because they’ve kept going,” said Keates.

“The way they play they were always going to have a bit more possession with the extra man in the middle of the park, but I felt they didn’t really cut us open or hurt us and ‘Dunny’ didn’t have too much to do.”
