Police say they were called to St Leonard's Road in Poplar around 8.25am where they found the man behind a shop.
The man, believed to be in his mid-20s, was pronounced dead at the scene and a post-mortem at Poplar Mortuary on Sunday gave the cause of death as head injuries and drowning.
