The Leyton Orient Academy Head of Coaching is confident Justin Edinburgh and Martin Ling will take the club back into the Football League

Leyton Orient’s departing Academy Head of Coaching Jimmy Unwin has backed Martin Ling and Justin Edinburgh to get the O’s back to where they should be.

Unwin confirmed he will be leaving Brisbane Road this summer to move back to Cambridge United to become a youth-team coach at the U’s.

The coach joined Orient last summer after six years at Norwich City where he held a number of roles including Lead Phase coach.

A tweet from the official club website read: “Good luck to Leyton Orient Academy Head of Coaching Jimmy Unwin as he joins Cambridge United.”

Unwin also posted his own farewell message and paid tribute to Ling, Edinburgh and all the staff at the National League club.

He revealed his disappointment at failing to help the O’s return to the Football League and also admitted he is hopeful the funding cuts to Orient’s academy won’t affect the youngster at E10.

“As you may have or may not have seen. I will be going back to Cambridge United on July 1 2018,” Unwin’s message read.

“Cambridge is a club I love and I can’t wait to be back working with a fantastic set of staff plus working with boys I was coaching when they were six or seven-years-old with the aim of getting them into the first-team.

“I would like to sincerely thank the welcoming staff at Leyton Orient for a brilliant season. We made great strides and I hope the half funding implications don’t affect the academy too much.

“Leyton Orient’s academy is an academy with a proud tradition of producing players. I am gutted the first-team didn’t get back to where they belong, but in ‘Lingy’, Justin and the staff there, they have the right people to get the club back where it should be.

“Everything happens for a reason, stay positive and keep believing.”
