A blaze in a five-storey derelict warehouse broke out this morning (Thursday) causing delays on the southbound carriageways of the A12.

Firefighters from Bow and Silvertown stations were called to the scene in Imperial Street, Bromley-by-Bow, at 6.17am this morning, and had brought the fire under control by 7am.

Smoke from the blaze caused one lane to be closed on the A12, but it was re-opened by 7:30am and traffic is now said to be flowing normally.

One man was present at the building, but had left by the time fire crews arrived. There are no reported injuries.
