A year after water cascaded through the ceiling of a Tower Hamlets flat a mum and her toddler are still unable to use their bathroom.

Christy Rush, 20, of Whitehorn House, Wapping, explained the light-fitting in the bathroom still leaks hot water after a flood in her home last September.

She has been living in the council flat since December 2012 and says she is “desperate” as she has to travel to her mum’s house to bathe her three-year-old son.

“No one ever checked the electrics since the initial flood when it was pouring with water,” said Christy.

“It’s murder, I’m desperate, it’s an absolute joke. It’s made me feel depressed because it’s been nothing but hassle and stress and I’ve been constantly ignored.

“I haven’t been able to use the bathroom at all in the last year because the leak was coming through the ceiling. It was leaking and they kept telling me it was just condensation. The floor is ruined too.”

A spokesperson for Tower Hamlets Homes, which manages the council housing stock, said they are treating the case as a priority, adding: “This is a legal disrepair case and we must follow the correct legal processes.

“We will contact the resident today and arrange an inspection of the property within the next two weeks to hopefully agree what work needs to be carried out and when.”
