Disabled artists from Tower Hamlets are set to see the Victoria Park mural they created included in an exhibition at the Houses of Parliament.

The work, which was created by disabled tenants of the Gateway Housing Association, will appear in a show called “Welcome to our World – a world including disabled people”.

MPs will be able to visit the exhibition, which features art expressing the struggles faced by people with disabilities, next week until Friday, February 15.

The Disability Murals project was organised by the UK Disabled Peoples Council, an organisation made up of various disability groups and charities.

Project coordinator Rebecca Yeo said: “The pictures show some harsh truths about the diversity of disabled people’s lives in Britain. The ideas, promoted in some branches of the media, of disabled people being work-shy scroungers could not be further from the truth.”
