Dear Editor,

I WAS dismayed like many people when I read the article 'Don't bin our Cockney pride' to learn that Tower Hamlets council is planning to evict the world famous Bancroft Local History and Archives from Bancroft Road and sell the building to Queen Mary College.

I was also mystified by the college plan to "significantly enhance the Tower Hamlets area" by inviting the Wiener Library in Westminster, with its vast collection of Holocaust and Nazi documents, to install itself at Bancroft Road. Surely a natural home for a collection that deals primarily with the Second World War would be London's Imperial War Museum?
