SUMMER University graduate Dizzee Rascal joined supporters as it launched a new brand and ambitions to take the scheme across the country.
The chart-topping 24-year-old who grew up in London's East End got involved with music projects at the Summer University in St Paul's Way Community School in Bow in 1998.
He said: "It's good to be part of something so positive and see that people care are take their time out and make big things happen."
The Summer University started in Tower Hamlets in 1995 and since grown across London and now offers 120 courses for 2,000 young people.
Tower Hamlets Summer University chief executive Sarah Davies unveiled its new brand to guests at City Hall yesterday.
She said: "We've never just operated in Tower Hamlets, we have never only run in the summer and we are not a university."
The new brand name "futureversity- where things can happen" will help extend the brand said Ms Davies.
