VOLUNTARY groups in London's deprived East End have landed cash windfalls for community projects.
The groups on the Isle of Dogs get a share of a �5,900 pot of cash being dished out by the Island Development Community Fund.
The East London Royals majorettes get �580 to pay for competition entry fees, while City Gateway has been given �800 for its women's Literacy event and to buy a sofa for its mentoring room.
The newly-formed East India 50-plus Consortium receives �800 towards its launch event, an open day with workshops, while the 5th Tower Hamlets Scouts are handed �800 towards an outdoor activity weekend.
The Island Bengali Welfare Organisation and Shahjalal Centre are given �250 each towards coach trips.
Community Fund 'fast track' grants up to �800 are available to voluntary groups in Blackwall, Millwall, Cubitt Town, Limehouse and Poplar for small items of equipment, social outings and events. The money comes from an endowment left by the former London Docklands Development Corporation and from donations by big business interests in Canary Wharf.
