Small businesses in our community play an invaluable role in boosting our local economy and culture.
Earlier this month, I spoke at a rally in support of local trader, Frank Wang, who risks losing his kiosk outside Bethnal Green station. Both the council and myself, with the support of the local MP, Rushanara Ali, are looking at solutions to save his business. The decision ultimately lies in the hands of TfL, but we will continue to push for a positive outcome.
Road safety issues have also been on the agenda locally, and I recently joined councillors and local residents with TfL officers in a walkabout around the Burdett Road and Mile End Road junction to assess the ongoing traffic issues.
On August 30 I am hosting a meeting on tackling violent crime with Stephen Timms MP for constituents, which will guide our work. He is on a committee looking at the Offensive Weapons Bill and I am deputy chairman of the Police Committee. To attend please email unmesh.desai@london.gov.uk
