A dog was resuscitated after being rescued from a Poplar flat fire.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus to bring the Boxer back to life after tending to the blaze in a nine-storey block of flats in Tiller Road, Poplar, at just after 3pm yesterday.

Six engines and 35 firefighters from Poplar, Shadwell, Millwall, Whitechapel and East Greenwich fire stations attended the blaze which partially damaged the flat on the sixth floor.

Nobody was injured.

Station Manager Steve Smith who was at the scene said: “Crews worked very quickly to get the fire under control and, fortunately, were able to rescue a dog who was in the flat at the time.

“I’m happy to say that after being given a bit of oxygen by us, he was delivered safely into the care of a local vet for a more thorough check up.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
