Joe Widdowson insists O’s mentality will be key to success against Dover

Justin Edinburgh says Leyton Orient will be after another solid home display on Bank Holiday Monday when Dover Athletic visit in the National League.

The O’s go into their seventh fixture of the campaign still unbeaten after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Gateshead.

Last time out in E10, Orient saw off Boreham Wood with a professional performance, which resulted in a 1-0 victory.

Ahead of hosting the Whites, Edinburgh and his squad will seek another controlled type of display.

“Boreham Wood is the type of level of performance we need at home,” Edinburgh said.

“We have a desire to win every game, the fans have a desire to win every game, but you can’t always expect it because it is a tough league.

“Teams will come here and give good accounts of themselves and raise their game, but we controlled it from start to finish against Boreham Wood.”

Left-back Joe Widdowson is hoping for another clean sheet on Monday when Dover visit east London.

He said: “We would probably like to score more goals, but if we can keep getting wins and clean sheets we won’t complain.

“We want to try and stay solid and not concede goals because we have players at the top end of the pitch who will always give us a chance to score like Jobi (McAnuff) and ‘Dayts’ (James Dayton) and ‘Macca’ (Macauley Bonne).

“Josh (Koroma) was outstanding against Boreham Wood as well, so we have good attacking players who can cause problems.”

A problem for O’s tomorrow will be a lack of recovery time after playing Gateshead on Saturday.

Speaking ahead of the two games over the Bank Holiday weekend, Widdowson said mentality will be key.

He added: “It is a case of resting up as much as you can, eating the right foods and getting fluids on board.

“Everyone has their own thing, some of the boys like massages, some like to go to the pool and stretch and then we have recovery pumps, so we have our own things.

“I like foam rolling, but it is a case of staying indoors and getting your rest and getting your head right too.

“The other team are just as tired because they have played as well and it is just about who wants it more and who feels mentally fresher.

“I have done it for a few years now and it is hard to play Saturday and then Monday, but it is not impossible and we just need the right mentality.

“We are back at home, so that’s nice because you don’t really want to travel for the second game. If we approach it right, we will be fine.”
