The Whites suffered a 3-0 defeat at Leyton Orient despite the game being level at the break

Dover Athletic boss Chris Kinnear was frustrated to see an encouraging first half performance count for little come full time at Leyton Orient on Bank Holiday Monday.

At the break, the National League contest was still goalless, although both teams had created plenty of opportunities to break the deadlock.

It didn’t take Orient long to produce the opener after the restart, however, as captain Jobi McAnuff saw a cross deflected in by Kedell Daniel in the 50th minute.

The O’s were in complete control after and added some deserved and justified gloss to the scoreline late on when Josh Koroma and Matt Harrold netted in the final 10 minutes in E10.

Kinnear admitted: “The second half was not very good at all, but first half I felt we edged it to be fair.

“We were a little bit the better side, but we let a goal in, again, straight after half time when we had talked about.

“Unfortunately that keeps happening and then you are one down and you have to take chances and they are a quality side, there’s no doubt about it and can hurt you.”

Orient’s class shone through in the second period and they showed a clinical touch in front of goal which had been lacking so far this season.

For Dover, Kinnear was left to reflect on a good first period, but bemoaned the lack of big game experience in his current squad.

The incredibly experienced manager did insist, however, they won’t mope about and will just get on with things.

“When you are 1-0 down against Leyton Orient it is tough because they are a good side, but first half we showed we have ability and it is just experience in games against big sides,” Kinnear said.

“We will only get that by playing in these games and at the moment our players haven’t done that much, so it has been difficult, but we will get on with it.”

The Dover boss concluded: “In the first half you saw we matched them, but we have to do it for 90 minutes.”
