THERE was fun in the sun as 600 residents turned out to celebrate the opening of a revamped park in Bromley by Bow.

Ten doves were released at Furze Green Park off Devons Road to promote community safety at the party on Saturday.

Poplar and Canning Town MP Jim Fitzpatrick and Tower Hamlets Mayor Ahmed Omer joined residents from the Lincoln estate together with staff from housing association Poplar HARCA and the Tower Hamlets Partnership at the park in Furze Street.

The park and its play area have been redesigned over the last two years and there are plans in the pipeline for bulb and tree planting as well as making a wildflower meadow to encourage more wildlife.

There will also be history information boards and seasonal markets in the square.
