KIDS with special needs got a cash boost last week when a cheque for more than 3,500 was handed over to their school.

Staff from Leaside Regeneration raised the cash for the Ian Mikardo special school in Bromley-by-Bow by taking part in the Great River Race in September last year.

A team of 10 people from the social enterprise, which aims to regenerate the Lower Lea Valley, paddled 21 miles down the Thames from Docklands in a dragon boat, along with other teams in boats all powered by paddles and oars.

The Leaside Regeneration team finished the race in three hours, eight minutes and is well on its way to raising its 5,000 target for the school for secondary school-aged boys with emotional and behavioural problems.
