Carol Savage, who gained investment from ‘Dragon’ Deborah Meaden on BBC programme, launches a calendar which can be personalised with family recipes and photos.

AFTER successfully gaining 100,000 investment for a recipe-sharing website on the BBC’s fearsome Dragons’ Den, an East End businesswoman has launched a personalised calendar to raise money for the hospital which helped her son.

Carol Savage, 44, who runs mydish.co.uk, which she describes as a Facebook for foodies, from offices in Brick Lane, was spurred on to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity by her son Oliver, 14.

He spent time at the hospital recovering from a kidney condition called nephrotic syndrome when he was nine years old.

The internet entrepreneur, who faced the wrath of the fearsome Dragons in 2009 before accepting an offer from multi-millionaire Deborah Meaden, is now selling the calendars, which allow buyers to add their own recipes, family photos and special dates, through her website.

She said: “Oliver’s idea was to create a cookbook or a calendar to raise money for a charity.

“He then chose the hospital.

“Their staff were brilliant, it [his illness] was dealt with really nicely.”

Carol also announced a partnership with Tesco.com this week, after appearing on a Dragons’ Den catch-up programme on Sunday (October 17), so her website users can add recipe ingredients to their online shopping basket.

The website allows visitors to share their family dishes and was inspired after Carol found two scraps of papers with traditional recipes from her husband’s mother.

The calendar, which costs 15 with 5 going to Great Ormond Street, is available at mydish.co.uk.
