COPS have seized a huge drugs haul in London’s East End in a bust which has uncovered heroin worth £45,000.

Officers found the stash and wads of cash running into the high tens-of-thousands of pounds when they raided a flat at Millharbour on the Isle of Dogs.

They recovered around a kilogram of heroin in the afternoon raid on September 2.

Tower Hamlets deputy borough police commander Steve Bending said: “This is one of the biggest seizures we’ve made.

“Our priority is tackling drug dealing. That doesn’t just mean at street level—it means at the higher echelons as well.

“So we’re really pleased with this result.”

Two men from Bethnal Green were later charged in connection with the operation, Shahid Ahmed, 24, from Seabright House in Coate Street, and Ashraf Uddin, 23, from nearby Beechwood House in Teale Street, who have been were charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

In a separate operation, cops raided a flat in Stepney three days later and seized class A drugs, though to be crack cocaine, and several thousand pounds in cash as well as drugs paraphernalia.

Two men in their 20s and a teenage girl were arrested and have been bailed to return to police on October 16.
