Archant

The Duke of Gloucester was given a tour of one of the East End’s most recognisable churches in glorious sunshine yesterday/last week.

His Royal Highness Prince Richard visited St John on Bethnal Green during a tour of historic churches across east London.

The trip to the Grade One listed building was made as part of the Duke’s duties to promote architecture and conservation – one in which he takes a special interest as a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

He was shown around the church in Cambridge Heath Road by Rector Alan Green, with the pair joined by members of the National Churches Trust, among others.

Following the visit, on Wednesday, the Duke proceeded to St John of Jerusalem Church in Hackney and Memorial Community Church, Plaistow.
