THE Town Hall's deputy leader was defending East End Life today in a debate on council newspapers.
Cllr Josh Peck was up against journalist Andrew Gilligan on Radio 4's Media Show earlier today as he insisted council newspapers, including Tower Hamlets council's own East End Life were not to blame for the decline in local press.
The Telegraph journalist accused the council of having the intention of "taking over most of what the local independent press does" and "drive it out of business" so that East End Life would be the only newspaper left in the borough.
But Cllr Peck insisted it was their "duty to champion up the area" and "build stronger healthier communities" and insisted East End Life did a "totally different job" to the East London Advertiser.
