TOWER Hamlets is set to get new 'champions' to help make the borough a safer place.

The No Place for Hate Forum is recruiting 10 new champions who aim to play a part in tackling hate crime in the borough.

Successful applicants will be given training to raise awareness of hate crime and why people should report it.

Tower Hamlets council's hate crime chief Menara Ahmed said: "The champions can make a real difference to the lives of local people.

"They recognise the impact hate can have and how one incident can lead to community unrest.

"Becoming a champion is a great way for people to improve their skills and knowledge as well as play their part in making Tower Hamlets no place for hate."

The closing date for applications is Friday, April 30.

For more information or an application form, visit www.towerhamlets.gov.uk/champions or call 020 7364 6105.
