FELLOW East London MP Rushanara Ali helped Diane Abbott secure her nomination in the Labour party leadership campaign.
With just ten minutes to go before the nominations close the new MP for Bethnal Green and Bow gave the Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP her support.
At the time Ms Abbott was just three names short to contest the leadership.
She now goes forward to campaign against Ed and David Miliband, Andy Burnham and Ed Balls.
Ms Ali said: "When Diane was so close I felt it was my responsibility for me as a woman to help her to get in."
But she is unlikely to vote for her fellow East London MP in the leadership contest.
