A police officer was killed in a motorcycle road accident in east London after taking his daughter swimming.

Shazahan Wadud, 29, died following a collision with a car in Wanstead on Sunday evening.

He had been on his way to Limehouse police station where he was a response officer answering emergency 999 calls.

His devastated father spoke this week of the man who “got on with everyone” who died at the scene of the crash.

“The whole family is devastated,” said Abdul Wadud. “He was a lovely guy who loved his job and got on well with everyone.

“I saw him at 5.30pm when he had taken his daughter for a swim. Then he went home and got on his bike to go to work—and that was it.”

Two ambulance crews and a medical responder unit were at the scene and treated him for cardiac arrest.

But Shazahan, who lived in Chigwell, was pronounced dead at the roadside, despite efforts to save him.

The 66-year-old car driver involved, who stopped at the scene, was later arrested and bailed until October, police have confirmed.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the incident at the junction of New Wanstead and Spratt Hall Road at 9.15pm are being urged to call the Met’s Road Death Investigation unit on 020-8597 4874.
