OVER a 100 people have signed a petition against a housing development for young homeless single mums in the East End, which they say fear will lead to increased anti-social behaviour.
Residents living in and around Armagh Road in Bow have signed the petition against
the four-storey building with 11 flats and community areas. The Old Ford Methodist Church on the corner of Old Ford Road will be demolished to make way for the development which residents say will house new church facilities and flats for the young mums.
Jane Silvester, 49,of Pulteney Close said: "We are already bursting at the seams with vulnerable people. The area is already known for its problems with drunks and people taking drunks.
"It's unfair on residents, many of them are old people, we feel we are being treated like scum because will live on housing estates with no one listening to us."
"It's being called purpose built flats but it's really a hostel and will have a warden, but not in the evenings and at weekends. We worry the women will attract groups of boys and people selling drugs."
Residents had a meeting last night with representatives from the developers, Gateway Housing, and another meeting is being held tonight at The Old Ford Methodist Church at 5pm.
