The third annual Bengal history week being staged in London’s East End by the Brick Lane Circle opens next month with exhibitions, films, talks and panel discussions.
Topics include failure of the ‘Pakistan’ experiment in East Pakistan 1947-71, the life of Bengal’s ‘forgotten prophet’ Chandra Sen, Bengali doctors and the legacy of Empire, British Bangladeshi politics in the UK 1971-2011, political conflict in the Chittagong Hills and the impact of Moghul rule in Bengal.
The programme beginning October 6 aims to generate interest in Bengal history to new audiences in non-academic settings, with events held at Whitechapel’s Brady arts centre and Idea Store.
