YOUNG mathematicians went head-to-head in the Town Hall’s annual primary schools’ challenge. The kids from Stepney’s Halley Primary shone out as the brightest buttons when they beat off stiff competition from 16 other schools

YOUNG mathematicians went head-to-head in the Town Hall's annual primary schools' challenge.

The brightest bods battled it out for first place at the inter-school event in London's East End.

The kids from Stepney's Halley Primary shone out as the brightest buttons when they held off stiff competition from Bygrove and English Martyrs schools who came in second and third.

Halley's winning team, Zainab Irmal, Taher Khan, Muhammed Saleh Ahmed and Samirah Chowdhury, knocked out challenges from 16 other primary schools each working out several different tasks.

They were judged on how they applied maths in the tasks, rather than asked to merely complete calculationst.

The annual challenge trophy was held by Tower Hamlets education authority at the Professional Development centre in Mile End. Halley Primary now get to keep the winning shield for a year, as well as a trophy.
