A live band and Bollywood dance are being laid on for the East End’s older folk to show their contribution to society.
Older People’s Day is being celebrated by LinkAge with their annual event on October 1 for people over 50, at Mile End leisure centre.
Entertainment includes the band, music quiz and ‘Bollywood’ dance performance, with activities such as massage, manicures and swimming taster sessions, from 10.30am to 3pm at the leisure centre at 190 Burdett Road, Mile End.
It coincides with the UN International Day of Older Persons to celebrate achievements and contributions older people make to society and the economy.
LinkAge Plus, funded by Tower Hamlets Council and the GPs’ Clinical Commissioning group, runs five centres which aim to reduce social isolation and promote independence. Activities include tai chi, keep fit, computer classes, line dancing and art.
Its outreach workers regularly go out into the community to find vulnerable older people and connect them with services such as debt and benefits advice, health, volunteering, housing and home safety.
