A FINAL decision over plans for a school in East London to be taken over by a university trust to improve its failing exam results is being made by the local education authority today (Wednesday).
St Paul's Way Community secondary in Bow Common could become a National Challenge Trust school next month.
The move would mean it would be the first in Tower Hamlets to be handed over, together with its staff and assets, to an 'educational partner' that could be a university or another school.
It would receive �750,000 from Whitehall and be run by a board of trustees who would appoint most of the governors.
Tower Hamlets council's cabinet, which backs the move, is discussing the final decision at its meeting tonight.
But the National Union of Teachers has raised fears about the impact it could have on staff, some of whom were faced with redundancy earlier this year.
