A PROGRAMME to get schoolkids in East London more involved in the building of the 2012 Olympics going up on their doorstep has been set up by the authority responsible for delivering the Games.

A series of workshops over the next six months has just begun where 20 selected Year-6 pupils from eight primary schools in the 'host' boroughs have been nominated to take part in the programme.

It began with a visit to the Olympic Park at Stratford where the kids saw the progress for themselves.

The workshops are aimed to give them better understanding of the massive project which is creating the largest new urban park in Europe for 150 years.

The pupils then take what they've learned back to their schools to make presentations to their school pals.

They have already completed a two-day introductory workshop which included a trip around the Olympic Park and a talk from the Delivery authority's chief David Higgins.

The eight schools involved in the programme are Tower Hamlets' Roman Road Primary in Bow, Hackney's Jubilee Primary, Newham's Marner Primary, two in Waltham Forest, Willow Brook and Jenny Hammond primaries, and two in Greenwich, Cardwell and Middle Park primaries.
