A Tower Hamlets school teacher will run this years London marathon and hopes to raise �6,000 for an East End education trust which sends youngsters overseas to do voluntary work.
Akmol Khan, head of science at Morpeth School, in Bethnal Green, will run his first marathon – this Sunday, April 22 - in aid of The Daneford Trust.
The trust sends young people abroad to do voluntary work with children in countries such as Bangladesh, Ghana and Namibia.
Akmol said: “I am really privileged to be running for the Daneford Trust and I’ve been training hard and looking forward to the day. I can’t wait to get started.”
Mr Khan will joined by Tony Stevens, who works for The Daneford Trust, and together they hope to raise �6,000 for the trust.
Mr Stevens said: “This year is the 30th anniversary of the Daneford Trusts work with young people and the money Akmol and myself aim to raise will go a long way to ensuring the trust’s work will continue for another 30 years.”
Sir Alasdair MacDonald CBE, Headteacher of Morpeth School is a patron of the trust.
